England and Great Britain captain Alex Danson gave a nod of approval from the Sports Centre sidelines as she watched Southampton ladies twice come from behind to draw 2-2 with South Women’s League Division 3B leaders London Wanderers.
Danson, who spent her embryo years with Trojans, saw Southampton begin strongly – only to fall behind against the run of play. Southampton responded well with Nat Romain equalising after her side had forced a succession of short corners. But once again Wanderers snared the lead, only for Lauren Carter to score a fine equaliser just before the half-time break. The second half was goalless but never light on intensity, weary legs and bodies being put on the line as honours were eventually shared. Southampton had thee players sin-binned towards the end and finished with only nine players, but still finishing with a creditable draw. In-form Fareham stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches when a second half penalty former equaliser by Jo Faulkner secured a 1-1 draw at Lewes.
