Amy Sheehan notched a hat-trick as Trojans’ ladies swept to a 4-3 win over lowly Exe – the result lifting them to fifth place in the Investec Women’s Western Conference table.
The Romsey school PE hot shot scored two second half goals after the Exeter girls had clawed back to 2-2 at the interval. Exe took an 18th minute lead through Emily Mitcham but, having taken their time to become accustomed to the slow St Peter’s School playing surface, equalised from a Sheehan reverse stick shot. Six minutes later Jenny Gough fired Trojans ahead, but right on the half-time whistle Lorel Wallis equalised from a well executed penalty corner. Trojans upped the tempo at the start of the second half with Sheehan scoring a stunning third goal after lifting the ball over the sticks of two Exe defenders and, at full stretch, sending the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. When Sheehan completed her hat-trick from a move initiated by Charlotte Steinbrecher, Trojans were virtually home and dry, but Mitchem got a consolation third for Exe right on the whistle.
