Trojans had to withstand a late West Hampstead onslaught to secure a 3-2 win which keeps them in second place behind free-scoring South League Premier Division 2 pacemakers Guildford, who blasted Staines 7-1.
The visitors enjoyed most of the early possession, but chances went begging until Dave Ferrier finished off a fine right-flank move to fire Trojans ahead. West Hampstead’s response was immediate, Benji Knights Johnson equalising with a penalty corner drag flick. Ian Bassett found himself denied by the WH keeper just before half-time, but when Paul Hilton and Colin French, two of Trojans ‘old hands’ got together, the lead was restored, Hilton creating the opportunity by beating two defenders. Angus Haigh made it 3-1 for Trojans, but West Hampstead, so often bogey opponents in the past, refused to lie down, with Alex Stobbart setting up a frantic finale when he clawed a second goal back. But Trojans held on.
