Two late goals in quick succession by Emma Teague and Zoe Gittens earned Trojans ladies a 2-0 win over Reading which secured a healthy mid-table spot in the Women’s Western Conference.
The situation is so tight that a mere four points separate the six clubs between third and eighth place in the table behind unbeaten runaway leaders Stourport and Gloucester City, who look set to finish runnrs-up. Trojans enjoyed the better of a goal-less first half, with Amy Sheehan shooting just wide from an acute angle and later being denied by the toe-end of the Reading goalkeeper’s boot which prevented a certain goal. Reading forced two unconverted penalty corners before half-time and arguably enjoyed more of the ball in the second period without seriously troubling the Stoneham defence. Trojans eventually got their noses in front nine minutes from the end with Emma Teague [pictured above] scoring from a penalty corner. Two minutes later they clinched the win points – Gittens finishing off a move initiated from a Heather Batten free hit and created by Sheehan.
