Former Southampton hit-man Ollie Knight is always keen to remind the locals of his goal-scoring prowess when he returns to play South League hockey in the area.
He’s scored almost 50 league goals since moving to London Edwardians from Southampton. But the one-time Totton & Eling cricketer’s hopes of making an impact in the Premier Division 1 visit to Winchester ended abruptly when he pulled up with a hamstring injury after only five minutes at Kings’. Winchester, without suspended trio Ben Hibberd, Mark Maunsell and goalkeeper Caelen Dillon, gave a debut to Havant’s goal-minder Ben Cowling, who produced a sparkling debut with a string of fine saves. Kent Langridge gave Winchester a first half lead, which penalty corner strikes by Tom Groombridge and Jonny Haynes (ten minutes from time) wiped out to give Edwardians a 2-1 win. Trojans drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, with Richard Aves on target.
