![]() Ali Birch wasn't sure whether to celebrate or commiserate after Holly Cameron's second half goal secured a 1-0 South Women's League Division 3B win for Winchester over the Southampton ladies team he now coaches. Birch is part of Winchester hockey folklore, having kept goal for the city club men's team for many years until recently. But, branching out into the hockey coaching world, Birch is currently pulling the strings for Southampton from the sidelines. He watched his Southampton charges call the tune in the first half, only to be denied by some smart goalkeeping by Shelly Mott. Southampton continued to press after the break, but Winchester's defence held firm, increasing the prospect of an away goal which Holly Cameron [left] duly grabbed from the team's first penalty corner which beat Linda Dunham from a tight angle.
