A 2-1 win over second placed Sevenoaks has put Havant firmly in the National Division Souh promotion frame and, if they happen to win at table topping Oxted on Sunday, a chance of winning the championship itself.
They'll travel the M25 eastbound four points in arrears of Oxted, who extended their 11-match unbeaten start with a 6-2 mauling of Fareham. But if they win that lead will be cut to a solitary point. Havant took the lead two minutes before the break against Sevenoaks when Atiq Arshad moved his way up the right wing and crossed the ball into the circle where Michael Deller-Merrick deflected the ball past the helpless Richard Potton in the visitors goal. Havant started the second half strongly creating a couple of half chances, but it was Sevenoaks who scored through Craig Wild from their third penalty corner in the 41st minute to level the scores. Havant's winner came just after the hour mark, soon after Sevenoaks' Ed Matts was sin binned for a poor tackle. With the numerical advantage Havant won their second penalty corner of the game two minutes later, and Federico Bertoni made no mistake with a powerful flick into the roof of the goal.
