3/21/2017 0 Comments FREAK OWN GOAL KO's TROJANS HOPESA freak own goal moments before half-time gave Didsbury Northern a 1-0 win and put paid to Trojans’ prospects of playing in the England Hockey national Trophy final at Lea Valley.
A tightly contested semi-final was decided shortly before the break when a cross from the baseline by Nick Lowden took an unfortunate deflection off the goalkeeper Phil Roch straight into the Trojans net. Didsbury had the better of the early exchanges hitting the post from a penalty corner and dominating possession. Trojans created few chances in a tense opening, but had more of the game in the second half; alas, Didsbury's former Great Britain international Scott Cordon broke up numerous attacks and scoring opportunities were hard to come by. With time running out Trojans threw more men forward. Ian Bassett had a shot blocked before a deflection from Calum Crichton rolled agonisingly wide of the post. Trojans replaced their goalkeeper towards the end of the game but even with an extra outfield player they could not break the visitors defence.
