Fareham ladies seconds swept to the Hampshire Women’s League Division 2 title in some style, winning 20 of their 22 matches to secure a remarkable fourth promotion in six seasons. Georgia Collins (16), Louisa Palmer (14) and Nichola Etherington (10) led the way as Fareham scored 79 goals, securing promotion in late February with four games still to play. “It’s a remarkable achievement considering the Fareham second side was only formed in 2012, this season’s record being outstanding considering the rapid rise through the leagues,” beamed manager Richard Cornish. “This is part of our five-year rolling plan to increase participation and the quality of ladies hockey at Fareham. We’ve doubled the number of girls playing hockey at the club from 30 to 60 and next season will field teams in South League Division 3B and Hampshire League Division 1, a commendable achievement.”
