Local trio to renew West rivalries

Fareham will renew their rivalries with Chichester and Havant in next season’s England Hockey Men’s Western Conference.
Chichester spent the past season fighting an eventually successful battle against relegation from the East Division, but some geographical tweaks mean they will be back playing in the western region next autumn.
The only newcomers to the West Conference are Ed Ellis’s Oxford Hawks, who romped to the South Premier League title this past season.
Exeter University won promotion into the National League, while Cheltenham were relegated.
The make-up of the Western Conference is: Birmingham University, Bristol University, Cardiff & Met, Chichester, Fareham, Havant, Isca, Olton & West Warwicks, Oxford Hawks, Team Bath Buccaneers.
Trojans’ opponents in the Women’s Western Conference have a familiar ring with Barnes and Exeter the only fresh faces. Team Bath and Cannock were relegated
Women’s Western Conference line-up is: Barnes, Exeter, Gloucester City, Isca, Olton & West Warwicks, Oxford Hawks, Reading, Stourport, Swansea City and Trojans.

Goalscoring goalkeeper sinks Fareham

Picture
Melanie Insall is Trojans’ goal-scoring goalkeeper !
Swapping her regular role between the posts, she underlined her goal-scoring prowess with a second half brace as Trojans’ ladies strolled to a 3-0 win over Fareham in the Hampshire Women’s Cup final.
Daisy Strange for the scoring underway with a first half penalty corner before Insall struck twice to put a one-sided final to bed.
Trojans skipper Jenny Peebles poured cold water any idea Melanie had of continuing her new role as a striker.  “No,” she said. “She’s too good in goal.”

Super Sam seals Havant cup final triumph

Picture
Havant retained the Hampshire Cup with a 2-1 win over a youthful Fareham side in a county final played in the sweltering heat of Aldershot's Army Hockey Centre.
Goalkeeper Chris Bristow produced a string of fine saves to keep Fareham at bay in towards the end of a goal-less  first half – two were superb efforts to keep out Jamie Rawlings’ penalty corners.
Soon after half-time Rory Marsh produced some magical midfield skills to open the door for teenager Ethan Hoddle to put Havant in front – a lead Chris Davey soon cancelled out with a scrambled equaliser. Sam Hatherley, pictured by Neil Marshall, hit Havant’s winner.
